At least six people are dead after a gunman opened fire in a busy central district of Ukraine’s capital before barricading himself inside a supermarket.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the gunman took hostages inside the store, and that one of the hostages was killed.

He said four people were killed on the street after the man opened fire and a sixth woman died in hospital.

Authorities said the suspect, a 58-year-old man, was born in Russia and had a criminal record, but gave no indication about his motive.

The gunman was shot dead by police after a 40-minute stand-off, when officers stormed the store.
