To mark Earth Day in 2026, Kelly Drennan from ‘Fashion Takes Action’ joins Global News’ Jaden Lee-Lincoln to help explain what actually makes fashion brands sustainable, while offering tips to help us spot and avoid "greenwashing."

Drennan says perfection doesn’t exist. No brand will check all the boxes, but using preferred material like organic cotton is an example of a brand that’s being sustainable. 

Sustainability also includes the kinds of chemicals being used by brands and whether they pay fair wages to their employees. 

On greenwashing, Drennan said 77 per cent of Canadians are concerned about the environment, but only half of them know about the negative impacts of fashion.
