U.S. President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that the United States had already won the war with Iran but signalled the fight would continue for now.

“You never like to say too early you won. We won,” Trump told supporters at a campaign-style rally in Hebron, Kentucky. “In the first hour, it was over.”

“We don’t want to leave early, do we?” he said. “We’ve got to finish the job.”

Trump also said a decision by the International Energy Agency (IEA) to release oil from strategic reserves would substantially reduce oil prices.

“I’m pleased to report that earlier today the International Energy Agency agreed to coordinate the release of a record 400 million barrels of oil from various national petroleum reserves around the world, which will substantially reduce oil prices as we end this threat to America and the world,” Trump said.
