Minister of Public Safety Gary Anandasangaree announced a $10 million investment in the Canada Community and Security Program (CCSP) for security at Jewish community centres, schools, synagogues, daycares and overnight camps on Wednesday.

“I want you to know, your government stands with you against antisemitism, hatred and violence in all its forms,” the public safety minister said.

The funding announcement comes after a recent string of shootings at Jewish community centres and synagogues in Toronto and Montreal.

Anandasangaree said the “Money will be provided to centralized organizations in Toronto and Montreal, who will then work with local Jewish organizations to determine specific urgent projects to fund,” and called this “a very important step in ensuring the safety and security of Jewish institutions.”
