A 2020 study estimated some 60,000 sex workers were active in Ghana, despite the fact that prostitution is criminalized in the West African nation. However, viral posts shared in January 2026 purport to show a very different situation the capital, Accra. The images feature lightly-clad women on display in red windows, and in the comments, French- and English-speaking internet users express shock, as the the imgaes showed proof of an unashamed expansion of prostitution. But in reality, the video was AI-generated and even bears traces of anomalies typical of early AI creations.
