For decades, Colombia has tried to leave behind the violent legacy of its most notorious drug lord, Pablo Escobar. But there’s an unusual problem that keeps growing: Escobar’s pet hippos.

They’ve become an invasive species, posing a danger to the local population and creating an ecological crisis. The Latin American country is moving ahead with a plan to cull them.
