A Fairview Mall security guard was shot “in the mid-section area” as a jewelry store robbery suspect fled just minutes after the mall opened on Tuesday morning.

According to police, the male suspect fled the scene in a “construction-style white van” which was last seen heading south on Don Mills Road. He was described as wearing a white medical mask, a grey hoodie, pants and a blue baseball hat. Police believe he was operating alone.

Toronto Police Insp. Kristy Smith said the security guard is in stable condition.
