Police have charged the children’s father, a 37-year-old man, with two counts of first-degree murder in connection with the deaths of two children found in a vehicle in northwest Calgary.

At a press conference, investigators said the accused called 911 and reported the killings before officers located him at the scene and took him into custody.

The victims, a five-year-old boy and a three-year-old girl, were found in a vehicle in the city’s northwest, and their deaths were deemed suspicious.

The accused remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in court on Monday, with a publication ban in place protecting the identities of the children and witnesses.
