In some countries — okay, mostly the US — automakers are looking less and less interested in selling and maintaining EVs. And their dealerships? They’re more interested in selling you another V8 they can make money on than an EV that’ll cost you less through lower maintenance costs.
As parts become more scarce for certain EVs — like early first-generation Chevrolet Bolt EVs — there’s certainly a need for owners to roll their sleeves up and get involved in their own vehicle’s upkeep (that is, unless they happen to have a friendly, knowledgeable independent garage nearby). But even when you do have to take your EV to a dealer, knowing some of the common faults, problems, and quirks can save you a massive headache and maybe a large repair bill.
So today, Nikki’s doing some basic maintenance on her wife’s Bolt EV — as well as a more in-depth software upgrade on her Comma AI pedal interceptor — all while discussing some of the ways you can keep your EV on the road for less, gain important knowledge, and save on big bills.
