From Global News.
Thousands of Oahu Island residents in Hawaii were urged to evacuate their homes over the weekend as a second Kona Low – a seasonal, slow-moving subtropical cyclone – within two weeks swept across the region and triggered widespread flooding.
The National Weather Service said the storm hit Hawaii on Thursday and was anticipated to bring heavy rain, flash flooding and hazardous winds.
One video shared via Storyful shows a man wading through knee-deep water searching for stranded people and animals.
“This is our community, that’s why I stayed,” he told Storyful. “I couldn’t evacuate and leave neighbours and elders behind. I found so many animals,” he added.
The cost of damages due to the storm could top $1 billion USD.
