By studying Varroa mites and the bees they threaten, scientists like Dr. Sammy Ramsey are hopeful for a future where they no longer pose a threat. One of the ways mites can be captured for study is through a non-lethal process where bees are gently coated in powdered sugar, and the mites are shaken off for observation.
