In this edition of The West Block, Jackson Proskow sits down with financial expert Henrietta Treyz to discuss the strain consumers can expect over the next few months as the status of the Strait of Hormuz fluctuates almost daily.

“We haven’t really experienced the full brunt of the closure of the Strait of Hormuz yet," Treyz said. "You’re starting to see that as the White House promises aid to farmers who are dealing with fertilizer shortages; 70 per cent of U.S. farmers report that they have not bought fertilizer for this next season.”

Treyz also noted the latest report from the International Monetary Fund. “It was our first opportunity to hear in real-time, since the strait has been closed, how the impact is starting to trickle down and hit not just southeast Asian nations and Asian nations, as we know, but also the industrial inputs.”

And as Canadians get some relief at the pumps, Proskow and Treyz dive into whether other governments could follow Ottawa’s example of cutting fuel excise taxes.
