UN Security Council meets to discuss maritime security amid Iran war | LIVE

From Global News.

The United Nations Security Council will meet Monday to discuss maritime safety, focusing on security in the Strait of Hormuz, amid doubts over the future of peace negotiations between the U.S. and Israel and Iran.

Iran offered to reopen the Strait of Hormuz if the U.S. lifts its own blockade of the strait and agrees to end the war. It also proposed that the question of its nuclear program come at a later phase in negotiations.

The continued closure of the strait has sent gas prices soaring and could cause further damage to the world economy ahead of the U.S. midterm elections.

Over the weekend, U.S. President Trump cancelled a planned trip of U.S. envoys to Pakistan, citing delays and internal divisions within Iran’s leadership.
