If you’re planning a summer getaway, you may want to check if your travel insurance policy covers cancellations caused by jet fuel shortages.

Manulife says it now considers jet fuel shortages a “known event,” meaning if your flight gets cancelled, you won’t be able to make a claim.

“It’s not a surprise,” says Martin Firestone, president of Travel Secure. Firestone said that the majority of insurance companies, back on April 22, also declared it a “known cause.” He added, “liken it to a hurricane heading to Florida and people are buying trip cancellation interruption because they’re worried their flight won’t take off.”
