President Donald Trump made clear Monday that the status of the U.S.-Iran ceasefire was not looking positive when asked by reporters about Tehran’s recent response to a Washington peace proposal.

The 14-point proposal issued by the U.S. focused on ending the war on all fronts — including in Lebanon — and in halting Iran’s nuclear program altogether. In response, Tehran demanded compensation for war damage and an end to Trump’s naval blockade in the Strait of Hormuz — which Iran highlighted its sovereignty over.

"I would call it [the status of the ceasefire] the weakest after reading that piece of garbage they sent us. I didn’t even finish reading it." Trump said. "It’s on life support."

Now, concerns that the 10-week-spanning conflict will drag on and continue to paralyze shipping through the Strait of Hormuz have been heightened.
