Israeli lawmakers passed a bill on May 11 that would allow the death sentence for Palestinians convicted of taking part in the Oct. 7, 2023, attack that killed more than 1,200 people.

Another 250 people were also captured and held hostage by the militant group Hamas that day.

Human rights watchers say the bill is cause for concern as it would subject Palestinians to a completely different set of laws under a special tribunal vs. what would normally be seen in court.
