Carney welcomes largest order of commercial aircraft in Canadian history | FULL

From Global News.

Airbus Canada says it will supply AirAsia with a massive order of 150 of its Canadian-made A220 jets in a multibillion-dollar coup for Quebec’s aviation industry on Wednesday.

Airbus, which makes the narrow-body planes north of Montreal in Mirabel, says the agreement with the low-cost Malaysian airline marks the largest single firm order in the manufacturer’s history.

Prime Minister Mark Carney and Québec Premier Christine Fréchette spoke at the announcement to underscore the federal government’s push to diversify trade beyond the United States.

The Airbus complex, initially unveiled back in 2022, is the main site that manages the design and manufacturing of the front and aft fuselage sections for the Airbus A220 programme. The company provides a comprehensive range of commercial aircraft both domestically and internationally.

Currently, Airbus aircraft such as A330, A321, A320 and A220 are currently part of Canadian airline fleets, from customers such as Air Canada and Air Transat.
