From Global News.
Ontario Premier Doug Ford took questions from the media Tuesday in the aftermath of a decision to buy a jet for the province and cancelling it just days after news broke about the purchase.
“It’s kind of embarrassing a province our size, geographically and economically, that we have no government plane,” Ford said as he explained that it could have been used in several different ways including for firefighters and their equipment to get to wildfires in remote areas in the north.
While explaining the multitude of uses the plane could have had, Ford was asked why not just keep the plane. “You’re right and the more I explain it to people, you’re bang on,” Ford remarked but also said the “decision’s been done.”
Ford lamented and took responsibility that he didn’t get out ahead of news and while he said he wasn’t blaming media stories that categorized the jet purchase as his private plane. “What got the clicks for (the media) — I’m not blaming you — again it’s my responsibility. But when you put my personal plane, whatever it is, it gets more action.”
