Trump said he is not fighting with Pope Leo XIV but that he does “have a right to disagree with” the first American-born leader of the Catholic Church.

The president said Leo, whom he has condemned in multiple Truth Social posts for speaking out against the war with Iran, believes the country “can have a nuclear weapon.”  Trump has frequently made this claim. That claim is false.

The pope has publicly spoken out against nuclear weapons and the mass-scale devastation they are capable of causing.
