Investigators “still en route” to scene of Air Canada collision at LaGuardia Airport: NTSB

From Global News.

After an Air Canada jet carrying 76 passengers collided with a fire truck and killed two pilots at New York’s LaGuardia Airport Sunday, the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) says an investigation into the incident could take "days."

During a Monday press conference, NTSB Chairwoman Jennifer Homendy said several investigators were "still en route" to the scene, meaning that the organization has not "had a full day of investigation" yet.

Before colliding with the plane originating from Quebec’s Montreal-Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport, officials say the impacted fire truck was crossing the tarmac after being given permission to check on another plane reporting an odour onboard.

Promising to deliver only the facts, Homendy was unable to answer a majority of reporter questions, but revealed the NTSB had successfully conducted a "walking inspection" and recovered both black boxes from the smoldering Bombardier aircraft.

Homendy said more details would be shared at a Tuesday press conference, reminding reporters that there is "a lot of debris" for the NTSB to investigate.
