From Global News.
The Mexican mission to Canada comes at a delicate time, with concerns that U.S. President Donald Trump could walk away from the trilateral deal. With the deadline to review CUSMA rapidly approaching on July 1, the White House has already acknowledged it’s unlikely to be met.
According to Quebec’s envoy in the trade talks, Louis Blais, the Trump officials believe Canada is dragging its feet. However, Canada-U.S. Trade Minister Dominic LeBlanc says otherwise, “The Americans don’t think that we’re dragging our feet. They know we’re ready.”
Meanwhile, representatives from more than 240 Mexican businesses are visiting Canada, seeking to forge closer ties.
As Touria Izri reports, Mexico is Canada’s third-largest source of imports, while Canadian exports to Mexico are underwhelming. Both governments hope to change that as the U.S. trade war drags on.
