Prime Minister Mark Carney says Canada needs more men and women in skilled trades work. speaking to media in Oakville, Ont., Thursday, Carney unveiled details of was his government’s plan to get more youth into skilled trades and brace the country for continued turbulence on food and energy prices, as well as ongoing tariff uncertainty.
Building on the recent announcement in the spring economic outlook, Carney revealed more details of the government’s plan to cover apprenticeship training costs of up to $8,000 and to create more training opportunities in the skilled trades.
This move comes under the government’s "Team Canada Strong" plan, where he outlined a new $6 billion nationwide drive to recruit, train and hire between 80,000 and 100,000 new Red Seal trade workers in the next five years.
"So, we’re creating something called Team Canada Strong, which is more than a slogan. It’s a slogan, but it’s more than a slogan because it’s really about a team and when you have a team, you recruit, you train, you put them on the ice," Carney said.
