From AFP News Agency.
Mostafa Ahmed Mostafa is the heir to a long line of groundskeepers who have for generations guarded Sudan’s ancient pyramids of Meroe.
The 2,400-year-old burial site, which holds 140 pyramids, was built during the Kingdom of Kush’s Meroitic period and was once Sudan’s most visited heritage site.
Now, three years into the war between the army and paramilitary forces, the site is largely deserted. Mostafa and two archaeologists man the pyramids, cobbling together resources to keep the erosive rain and sands at bay.
