Transport Secretary says US “working with Canada” to investigate fatal Air Canada crash in NY

From Global News.

U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy provided an update Monday after an Air Canada flight collided with a fire truck at New York’s LaGuardia Airport late Sunday.

Duffy said the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) was working on the ground at LaGuardia and Transport Canada was also sending a team there. "There’s a well-worn path where we collaborate together when there’s aviation crashes in either of our countries," he said.

He confirmed that a CJR 900 plane originating from Montreal was carrying 76 people when it touched down and slammed into a fire truck on a runway at around 11:45 p.m.

The plane being operated by Air Canada and Jazz Aviation crashed into a fire truck on the runway, the two pilots later died. The two firefighters operating the emergency vehicle were injured and sent to the hospital, Duffy said.

"I just want to let America know that we are working our hearts off to make sure that when people travel, whether by rail or car or by air that they travel safely."
