Trump “lying as usual,” Iranian says as White House denies it requested Iran war ceasefire extension

From Global News.

During a briefing on Wednesday, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt denied reports that the U.S. had formally requested an extension to the ceasefire in Iran. “We’ve remained very much engaged in these negotiations,” she said.

“We feel good about the prospects of a deal,” Leavitt said, adding “The president mentioned that in his interview yesterday, and it’s obviously in the best interest of Iran to meet the president’s demands. I think he’s made his red lines in these negotiations very clear to the other side.”

Meanwhile, in Tehran, residents reacted to the ongoing negotiations.

“Trump said he will not extend the ceasefire, but I say he is lying as usual, this is a mockery that has been started for all these political games.” said 30 year old Tehran resident, Ali Heidari, when speaking to Reuters.

The U.S. and Iran failed to reach an agreement to end their war despite marathon talks that concluded on Sunday in the Pakistani capital Islamabad, jeopardizing a fragile ceasefire.

Each side blamed the other for the failure of the 21-hour negotiations to end fighting that has killed thousands, roiled the global economy and sent oil prices soaring since it began more than six weeks ago.
