“We were all thrown by the impact”: Over 14 killed, dozens injured after a train crash near Jakarta

From Global News.

At least 14 people were killed Monday after a commuter train collided with a long-distance train near Jakarta, Indonesia. Authorities say at least 88 others were injured because of the crash.

One passenger recollected his experience on the train: “We were all thrown by the impact and didn’t remember anything after that, we passed out. My wife passed out. I managed to stand up, tried to find her, and dragged her out onto the platform floor. She had fainted. Everyone was affected, and we could only think of ourselves. Our heads had been hit."

A parking security officer said rescuers took more than an hour to arrive, and that locals stepped in to carry bodies themselves because security officers were afraid of making mistakes during the rescue.

According to Reuters, land transport accidents are common in Indonesia. A 2024 train collision in West Java killed four people and injured dozens.
