“Everything was burning”: At least 2 dead, 10 hurt after explosion in Sevastopol

From Global News.

Two people were confirmed dead, and at least 10 injured after an explosion in a residential building in the port of Sevastopol in Russian-held Crimea, the Russia-appointed governor, Mikhail Razvozhayev said on Tuesday.

The reason for the explosion was not immediately clear, but three neighbouring apartment blocks were also damaged. The Russian Investigative Committee initiated a criminal case without providing details of the accident.

A local resident, Svetlana Kulikova, said she just went to bed about midnight when she heard a powerful bang. She soaked a towel with water and put it on her face when she felt a very strong and suffocating smell of carbon monoxide gas.

"Everything was burning," another resident, Vladimir Volkov, said.

Russia annexed Crimea in 2014 and now views the Black Sea peninsula as an integral part of its territory, though most of the world considers it still part of Ukraine.
