Ontario Premier Doug Ford received an honorary doctorate from a Michigan university, where he delivered a commencement address to graduating students.
In his speech at Saginaw Valley State University, Ford reflected on his experience working in the U.S. and the long-standing relationship between the two countries.
He warned tariffs could further strain those ties, quoting former U.S. president Ronald Reagan’s criticism of protectionism.
"Markets shrink and collapse … and millions of people lose their jobs," Ford said, urging Canada and the U.S. to work together.
