Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney is expected to make an announcement on affordability Tuesday morning after his Liberal Party swept three federal byelections overnight, securing a majority in the House of Commons.

The Liberals won the byelections in the Ontario ridings of University-Rosedale and Scarborough Southwest, and the closely contested Quebec riding of Terrebonne.

That puts the party at 174 seats in the House of Commons, which should allow the Carney Liberals to pass legislation without support from opposition parties. The Liberals have not had a majority government since 2019.
