From Global News.
Groups of passengers and crew members disembarked the MV Hondius cruise ship Sunday in Tenerife, Spain, to be evacuated to their home countries following an outbreak of a rare and deadly strain of hantavirus.
Three passengers died as a result of the outbreak and five others were confirmed to have been infected by the rodent-borne virus. No other passengers have shown symptoms.
Military personnel took passengers and crew members to Tenerife airport where they were met by planes sent by their respective countries.
Before the evacuation, a passenger shared videos from the cruise ship saying the situation on board was calm despite global panic surrounding the outbreak.
The World Health Organization has recommended a 42-day quarantine for all passengers evacuated from the ship Sunday.
