CSIS report warns Canada drawing closer ties with countries that remain biggest threats

From Global News.

The Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) is warning that two of the countries Canada is drawing closer trade ties with, are also two of the biggest threats when it comes to foreign interference.

An annual CSIS report states that last year the main perpetrators of foreign interference and espionage against Canada remained China and India; along with Russia, Iran and Pakistan. The report added “these were not the only foreign states to interfere in Canada” and that it “assesses these foreign actors will continue to use proxies to target perceived enemies living in foreign countries like Canada.”

As Nathaniel Dove reports, the report also warns of domestic extremism, saying, “threat actors are progressively driven by a range of often seemingly contradictory grievances and personalized narratives from across the traditional left/right ideological spectrum.”
