“They can’t go on like this”: US and Iran ceasefire tested by new tensions

From Global News.

The U.S. is seeking to get some vessels in the Strait of Hormuz out of harms way amid a fragile ceasefire. The Americans say two U.S. flagged merchant vessels successfully transited through the Strait Monday, however, the IRGC claims that to be a lie and warned any foreign military vessels will face strikes if they’re in the region.

These recent developments have left Gulf nations in the crosshairs again after the UAE was targeted again on Monday, putting pressure on the fragile ceasefire.

“I do think the Iranians realize that they can’t go on like this for a long time,” former U.S. diplomat Donald Jensen said, “but neither can Trump, so that will push the sides together for some kind of mid-range deal.”

As Reggie Cecchini reports, Donald Trump wanted the war wrapped up ahead of a meeting with China’s president in May, but the latest proposal from the Iranians included demands the U.S. considers “non-starters.”
