A hospital in Lyon, France is helping healthcare providers to better understand and treat the toxic effects of nitrous oxide.
The substance, also known as laughing gas, is used for pain relief in dentistry and medicine.
But in recent years, misuse of the inexpensive gas has become widespread among teenagers and young adults, who often use it as a party drug and inhale it via balloons filled from metal canisters.
