From Global News.
New York’s LaGuardia Airport reopened Monday, one day after a fatal collision involving an Air Canada Jazz flight late Sunday. Both the captain and the first officer on that flight were killed. The entire cockpit of the flight from Montreal was shredded after what appears to have been a head on collision with an airport fire truck. As Jackson Proskow reports, 43 others on board were injured.
One of the Air Canada pilots who was killed has since been identified. Passengers who were aboard the fatal flight have also described how they had to scramble to find a way out of the airplane. Mike Armstrong reports on how a flight attendant managed to survive.
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is leading an investigation into the accident. One of the big questions is why the fire truck in question was cleared to cross the runway as the Air Canada flight was landing. Touria Izri reports on what investigators will be looking for.
U.S. President Donald Trump has backed down from his threat to destroy Iranian power plants unless the Strait of Hormuz was opened by Monday. Trump claims someone in Iran’s leadership reached out to negotiate amid the ongoing war — even though he claims to have killed all of Iran’s leaders. Trump claims the talks are “very productive,” and he’s postponed his planned attack for another five days. Redmond Shannon reports on conflicting narratives and what we know.
