From Global News.
Investigators at New York’s LaGuardia Airport have revealed some of the failures that may have contributed to the collision between an Air Canada flight and a fire truck on Sunday night. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) findings, which are preliminary, point to an overlapping series of failures. One of them involves the fire truck, which had been cleared to cross the runway just before the plane touched down. As Jackson Proskow reports, the truck did not have a transponder that would have triggered a warning.
And what’s remarkable, given the circumstances of the incident, is that only two people died in the collision – the pilots. They were young men at the start of their careers. Mike Armstrong reports on what we know about them, and what grateful passengers are saying about them.
On Canada’s East Coast, there are no signs of spring yet in Newfoundland and Labrador. Another snowstorm has hit leaving roads a mess, schools closed, and countless flights either cancelled or delayed. Heidi Petracek reports on the latest dump of snow in a region that’s already broken winter records.
And, amid the war in Iran, Israel’s government says it now intends to seize parts of southern Lebanon. Israel’s military has been bombarding the country, hitting targets it says are associated with Hezbollah – Iran’s proxy in that country. Since the onslaught, Lebanon’s Health Ministry says over 1,000 people have been killed – and as much as one fifth of the population is displaced. Redmond Shannon reports on what Israel hopes to achieve.
