For the first time since agreeing to the goal in 2014, NATO says Canada will spend two percent of its GDP on defence this year. However, the spending requirements have already shifted, with Canada now expected to more than double that amount within a decade. Prime Minister Mark Carney travelled to the country’s most populous military base in Halifax Thursday to announce a major investment in Canada’s military infrastructure. Heidi Petracek explains what meeting the two per cent NATO target means for the region.
