A Montreal teen is being recognized for taking scary moment at home – and turning it into a potentially life-saving device.

The Grade 9 student engineered a device designed to prevent dangerous household accidents after her grandmother, who has dementia, left a pot on the stove overnight.

Aviana Machnes is already earning top honours and attention for her innovative solution to a very real problem.
