Iran War: Pentagon set to send thousands of elite 82nd Airborne troops to region | BBC News

From BBC News.

The Pentagon is set to send thousands of elite troops from the elite 82nd Airborne division to the Middle East. The paratroopers are specialists in airborne assault operations.

It comes as President Trump claimed that talks with Iran were happening “right now” and that Tehran wants to end the war. He said members of his administration were negotiating with “the right people” in Iran and said “we’ve won this war”.

Trump’s claims came after Iran had denied that any contact with the US had taken place, with the Speaker of Iran’s parliament calling the claims of talks “fake news” designed to “manipulate” oil and financial markets.

Meanwhile the exchange of fire between Israel and Iran has continued. Iran fired missiles into Israel after it hit dozens of sites inside Iran.

Israel has also continued its assault in southern Lebanon, where it announced plans to seize and occupy areas to create what it called a “security zone”.
