Mexico’s Sheinbaum hails security coordination after ‘El Jardinero’ arrest

From Global News.

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum on Tuesday praised the arrest of top Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) commander Audias Flores, known as "El Jardinero," who was captured by special forces in the western state of Nayarit on Monday.

Also on Monday, Mexican authorities announced they had arrested Cesar Alejandro N., nicknamed "El Güero Conta," who Mexican authorities say was a key money launderer for Flores.

Sheinbaum highlighted the coordination between defence, navy, and intelligence institutions, calling it "a very good result from the Security Cabinet."

The arrests come amid tight scrutiny of Mexico’s security situation as the country prepares to co-host the FIFA World Cup this summer alongside the U.S. and Canada.

Mexico has significantly stepped up its security efforts under enormous pressure from U.S. President Donald Trump. Trump has repeatedly threatened to use unilateral military action in Mexico if he feels that the Mexican government is not doing enough to fight the cartels.
