From Global News.
New Brunswick father Jim Shepherd lost his 15-year-old son Brian in 2008 after he experienced a fatal arrhythmia. He believes it was due to his son’s consumption of an energy drink and now advocates for restrictions on youth consumption.
“Parents tell their kids, here’s the deal about alcohol, about tobacco products — here are the dangers — and when they go to the store, if they want to experiment then they can’t because there’s an age restriction. Energy drinks have potential dangers," Shepherd said.
As Suzanne Lapointe explains, Shepherd says he’s happy to see a push in Quebec to restrict the sale of energy drinks to those under 16 and anticipates it could set a precedent across North America.
