“No-go zone”: Vancouver homeless man claims he was told to move ahead of FIFA

From Global News.

A Vancouver homeless man claims he’s been told he can’t sleep under the Cambie bridge any longer, as the city prepares to host the FIFA World Cup.

Wayne Bouchier told Global News that city workers told him the area was part of a two-kilometre “beautification zone” around B.C. Place.

“Every city in this world has homeless, you can’t just force homeless people away from the place you want to have, like, a certain aesthetic appeal to it,” Bouchier said.

Vancouver police and the city’s mayor deny that unhoused people are being told to move ahead of FIFA.

Global’s Kristen Robinson reports.
