From Global News.
A family of five from Montreal is seeking thousands of dollars in compensation from WestJet following flight delays that lasted almost 16 hours. The family was trying to get home from Cancun during spring break, but the departure time kept getting pushed back.
Michael Rogers is seeking compensation of $4,000; one thousand for each family member plus an extra $1,200 in additional expenses he says they incurred to rebook a train to Montreal. He’s demanding the amount based on what the Canadian Transportation Agency recommends for flights delayed more than nine hours.
“To me that’s the penalty that they should be incurred to pay,” Rogers said.
As Tim Sargeant reports, they claim the airline has refused their request for compensation and instead blamed the flight delay on reasons outside of WestJet’s control, such as weather or airport issues.
