New Jersey just elected Analilia Mejia, a progressive, to fill the seat vacated by the centrist Democrat Mikie Sherrill, who’s now the state’s governor. In her victory speech, Mejia referred to herself as Congress’ “unbought, unbossed, sassy new member,” calling attention to her independence from corporate interests and fearless criticism of Donald Trump and his billionaire backers. “This connection between oligarchs and a corrupt administration is costing the American people money, and they’re waking up to it,” she tells Ali Velshi.
