Smith warns Carney that Albertans are getting “a bit impatient” with MOU delays

From Global News.

Alberta Premier Danielle Smith pushed Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney for progress on the Alberta-Canada memorandum of understanding (MOU) on energy Friday — weeks after the deadline passed for its finalization.

“[We] still have a few things to work out and I hope that we can get to the finish line on signing that MOU,” Smith told Carney in front of reporters.

“I know industry is getting a bit impatient, Albertans are getting a little bit impatient, and if we’re going to move forward with that MOU, I hope it happens in the next number of days.”

While the centerpiece of the MOU includes a framework for a new pipeline to be built from Alberta to B.C.’s coast, it also exempts Alberta from Canada’s Clean Electricity Regulations as the two governments work out a new industrial carbon pricing agreement that aims for Alberta to “achieve net-zero emissions by 2050.”
