WATCH: Boston Marathon sprints toward sustainability

From PBS NewsHour.

Rising global temperatures are creating a new obstacle for endurance athletes.

According to Climate Central, most of more than 200 major races around the world may no longer have optimal weather conditions by 2045.

But organizers of the Boston Marathon are doing what they can to help prevent the worst effects of climate change, pledging to cut the race’s carbon footprint by 42% by 2030.

From reusing cups to using renewable energy, PBS News’ Addy Briley explores the many ways the Boston Marathon hopes to become a model of sustainability.
