President Donald Trump phoned in his support for Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán at an event attended by Vice President JD Vance on Tuesday.
Vance was in Hungary for a scheduled two-day visit with key Trump ally Orbán, who is trailing in the polls in his re-election bid ahead of an April 12 vote.
"I just want to tell you I’m a big fan of Viktor, I’m with him all the way,” the president told the Hungarians in attendance as Vance held up the phone to a microphone. “The United States is with him all the way."
Trump has long endorsed Orbán and his brand of rightwing populism, praising his authoritarian hold on his country’s legal system and media independence, among other things.
