At least 16 people have been injured after a former student opened fire on a high school in southeast Turkey.

The 18-year-old gunman shot at Ahmet Koyuncu Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School in Siverek at roughly 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, before entering the institute and shooting at teachers and students, Sanliurfa Governor Hasan Sildak told reporters.

Sildak confirmed the victims consisted of 10 students, four teachers, one police officer and a cafeteria worker, adding that the assailant ended his own life after shooting himself.

The motive for the attack remains unclear and an investigation is underway.
