Babies born from ‘three-parent’ IVF look healthy so far, study finds

Mitochondrial replacement therapy aims to lower the chance mothers will pass down mitochondria containing potentially fatal mutations. The treatment was approved by the U.K. parliament 11 years ago and has attracted close attention from researchers.

A study published last year in The New England Journal of Medicine looked at eight babies born in England from this “three-parent” IVF approach and found promising early signs of the therapy’s safety.
