Suspected Ukrainian drones damage oil storage facility in Latvia near Russian border

From Global News.

Two drones crashed in Latvia on Thursday, stirring a feeling of insecurity among locals — locals who have long felt threatened after previous drone incursions in Latvian airspace.

Four empty oil tanks were damaged at the storage facility in Rezekne, which is located roughly 40k from the Russian border. Possible debris from a drone was found at the site, police and firefighters said.

The drones were most likely launched by Ukraine against targets in Russia, Latvia’s Defence Minister Andris Spruds told national broadcaster LSM, adding that military jets of the multinational NATO Baltic air police mission have been summoned to the site.

"People feel threatened… I have chatted and called people, friends, acquaintances. Some are very angry and some were afraid; they were packing their suitcases," local resident Sadovskis Jevgenijs said.

This after several stray Ukrainian drones hit Latvia, Estonia and Lithuania in late March. One slammed into a chimney at a local power station while another crashed-landed in a frozen lake and exploded.
