Used RCMP vehicles continue to be crushed, costing taxpayers

From Global News.

Dozens of storage facilities across Canada contain numerous RCMP vehicles destined to be crushed. Some of the vehicles have as little as 30,000 kilometres on them.

The decision to destroy the vehicles was made by Public Safety Canada in response to a Nova Scotia man killing 22 people while dressed as a police officer in a replica cruiser in 2020. Before that, decommissioned vehicles were sold, generating around $8 million a year for the RCMP.

As Melissa Ridgen reports, it’s costing taxpayers hundreds of thousands of dollars a year to store and crush useable vehicles.
